EPSS & Critical Power System Service and Assessments

Independent, field-validated emergency power system service and assessments for hospitals and critical facilities.

Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) failures are rarely caused by a single component — they are usually system-level issues involving configuration, distribution, load growth, or transfer performance. Our assessments validate how the entire system performs under real operating conditions, not just how individual components appear on paper.

We perform structured, field-based EPSS assessments for hospitals and critical facilities to establish a defensible understanding of system condition, operational readiness, load capability, and compliance risk.

When an EPSS Assessment Is Recommended

• Generator replacement or upgrade planning
• Funding or grant justification support
• REH / CAH conversion changes
• Suspected load growth
• Transfer behavior not previously validated
• Outdated or incomplete documentation
• Compliance or inspection risk
• Post-modification system review

Our Assessment Methodology

Our approach combines equipment condition review, field distribution verification, controlled operational testing (when approved), and structured real-time observation capture.

Equipment & Condition Review — Generator, transfer switch, fuel, and controls are inspected before testing.

Distribution & Load Verification — Emergency branches and panels are field-verified and measured.

Controlled Operational Testing — Supervised live transfer testing when approved.

Structured Observation Capture — Department staff log real-time performance observations.

Technical Run Logging — Detailed timing and measurement logs maintained.

Deliverables

• EPSS condition and risk report
• Load and capacity validation
• Transfer performance findings
• Deficiency register with priorities
• Corrective action roadmap
• Code reference mapping
• Photo and measurement appendix
• Funding support documentation

Engagement Model

Assessments are coordinated around hospital operations and patient safety requirements. Most field assessments are completed within a 2–5 day window depending on facility size and system complexity. Operational testing is performed only within approved testing windows and safety criteria.

Assessment work may be credited toward implementation projects when applicable.

Service: EPSS & Life-Safety Compliance Programs

We design and maintain Essential Electrical System (EPSS) compliance programs for healthcare facilities aligned with NFPA 99, NFPA 110, NEC 70 Article 517/700/701, NFPA 101, and CMS Life Safety requirements.

Unlike generator service vendors, we address the full EPSS compliance stack:

  • EPSS program design

  • ATS testing programs

  • Documentation systems

  • AHJ readiness reviews

  • Deficiency management

  • Life-safety PM frameworks

  • Root-cause analysis for repairs
